REFUSAL TO STAY DOWN (PART TWO)
I still didn't know why I wasn't called. 'So I did all these for nothing?' I thought.
Friends didn't talk much about it but Yomi asked sincerely and I couldn't give her a satisfactory answer.
After series of thought, I came to the conclusion that whoever the Judges reported to after the audition must have told them to delete my OPD as a church is different from a school or any other gathering.
If you knew me well, you'd know I was addicted to moving on. So, I moved on and returned to my hostel. After a while I returned home and the following sunday, I was at the branch of the same church again and there it was announced that there was going to be a programme tagged 'useful youth.' Here, the purpose is to train youth on how to be useful by learning a skill.
After collecting the hand-bill, I saw 'teaching' as part of the packages. 'ooooh, I may DO ME at this enterpreneurial programme' I thought. So, after the service, I quickly went to the Youth President to tell him my mind about the programme. He was too busy and didn't give me attention but I'm sure he heard me I wanted to share him my video as that would give him a better understanding of what I meant by 'Spoken English'

'I can't receive via bluetooth on this phone'
So, he called a brother to get the video. Initially, the brother said 'ooh, it's heavy' but he still collected it. I doubted if they both watched the video.
Meanwhile, I got the youth president's number, so we could chat on whatsapp. Well, you should know he never replied any of my messages. While we spoke in person, i had told him to put me in the seminar alongside other skills (web design, dog care, soap making etc). He said he'd try as they already had all the trade to teach but I should still prepare. So I intend teaching on 'Being a better English speaker to maximise profit in your field' at the same time, I asked him if I could be given 5 to 10mins to do an OPD in front everyone before we all go to our different classes.
Well, it was a two-day programme, friday and saturday. Friday was the general day (evening) while saturday was the day the trade or skills would be learnt. I had prepared for an OPD and for the 1hour teaching.
Before the programme started on friday, I went to the Youth President and asked if I'd do the OPD that day, he replied saying he doesn't know but if I'm called I should go out and do it.
There I was again hoping they'd call me and guess what? YES! They called me but this time I didn't use projector and while I was done, the people clapped. I felt happy. Saturday came and a brother came over to ask if I would do an OPD again but I told him NO because I didn't prepare for it. I had only prepared for my seminar.
I gave the MC my topic so when he reads, the people can choose where they'd like to be. The senior pastor asked all facilitators to come out and all eyes were on us. In fact, I was the only one wearing an I.D card...and quickly they had read all trades but HEY they didn't mention mine. I ran to the MC, ' hhaaha, you're not reading my topic '
' ooh, I'm sorry '
Then he announced ' well, if you want to learn speech or English, there's a class for you at the teen's church'
BOOM! Nobody showed interest. It wasn't earlier announced so all the people had gone to different classes. I went to the assistant pastor and told him nobody showed interest and he said 'I read it o, maybe you too should a class'
hmmm, I was speechless for a minute (a teacher who had come to teach but ended up being taught) and after gathering momentum, I thought of joining the 'dog care' as I want one for myself. Just as I was taking the step to move, a young man came to me and said he has interest, ' but you are the only one ' I said. ' Well, let's do it.'
We got upstairs and guess what? SIX other people came over to join the class just like after 5 to 10minutes we started. It was my first church seminar and it went so well, the pastor came to video it. The senior pastor too would come and check and wonder 'who's this guy,' ' wow, he's good. ' Don't mind me, I could read his mind.
When I was done, the Youth President RAN to take my number and said when next they have such programme, they'd definitely put me on the flier and just as I was leaving the church, I heard a shout, someone was calling me. Ooooooh, it's the senior pastor and soon, I was in his office. He thanked me specially and asked if I can please do an home teaching for his JSS2 son. I answered positive. He asked which service I'd come for the following day, I answered second service. He told me to please see his wife after the second service and make arrangements on how the teaching would be talk on the price I'd like to take.
I was soooooo happy. I felt relevant and loved and I can't wait for Sunday...for a minute, I thought of what to wear. 'I must kill it tomorrow ' I whispered
