According to a statement signed by the registrar of the university, Jacob Agboola urged the students to return to their campuses for the commencement of academic activities on Monday, September 18. Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says that eligible candidates for its 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) can now purchase the pin for registration using the Remita mode. The board on Sunday said the development came on the heels of the reported challenges the candidates faced in an attempt to acquire the pins from NIPOST and the designated banks. The Head of Information of JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said the board had noted the many headaches of prospective candidates from various parts of the country, including Lagos. He said that candidates had lamented the difficulties involved in obtaining the pins from designated banks on the payment of N5,500 and the subsequent hassles in getting registered. The registration of candidates for the examination started on March 20. The candidates had described the process as cumbersome and frustrating as they have to queue as early as 2 or 3 a.m. in some cases in banks just to acquire pins. They had also ...

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) wants the Federal Government to pay the outstanding arrears of its members not later than July 2017.. The National President of the union, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, stated this during a news conference at the University of Abuja yesterday where he said the Federal Government is owing academics in federal universities unpaid allowances of not less than N128 billion. “In view of this, the union rose from its NEC meeting at the Bayero University Kano observing that the particular issue of EAA cannot be meaningfully addressed unless within an agreed framework. Hence the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU resolved that all outstanding arrears of EAA should be paid not later than July 2017. “The decision of ASUU-NEC on the issue has since been communicated to the Minister of Education, Senate President and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund,’’ he said. 4 Universities Approved To Run E-learning Degree Programmes In Nigeria

Only four Nigerian universities have been approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to run e-learning Programme in Nigeria. The director of information and public relations of NUC, Ibrahim Yakasai, said the commission maintains its stand that online degrees are not accepted in Nigeria at the moment except in the four approved universities. These four universities have been duly approved by the commission as the pilot institutions for the Nigerian universities e-learning programme run within the shores of Nigeria. WAEC Results To Be Released 60 Days After Exams

The West African Examination Council [WAEC] has made known to the general public that the council has decided to release examination results 60days after the last examination prior to the last 90 days earlier been released. The WAEC HNO Olu Adenipekun, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the waiting days will now be 60 days as against 90 days previously. Mr. Adenipekun spoke with NAN on the side-line of the council’s 65th anniversary celebration which began on Thursday in Lagos. We’re not sure for now, if all of these Centres will also be allowed to conduct the actual exams in May. The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has emphasized that it will be organizing an optional mock examination before the 2017 UTME. According to the information published on its Twitter handle @JAMBHQ, the date of the Mock examination will soon be announced The purpose of the mock examination is to allow candidates FEEL what the main examination will look like. However, the board stated that the mock examination is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL.That is to say, it is not really a pre-requiste for writing the actual UTME so you can choose to take the mock examination or choose not to. UTME Registration: Cyber Café Owners Want Senate To Investigate New JAMB Policy

The Association of Educational Services and Cyber Café Operators (AESCCO) has written to the Senate protesting the policy by JAMB that Cyber cafe operators will not be allowed to register candidates for the 2017 UTME. According to the letter which was Dated 6 March and signed Mr. Femi Aborisade, lawyer to AESCCO, the policy, announced by JAMB on its website, is discrimination against cyber cafés run by small and medium scale owners in favour of JAMB-accredited CBT centres owned by big- time businessmen. “UTME applicants should be allowed to register for the examination from their individual computer units and/or those owned by their parents and guardians rather than be compelled to patronize CBT centres. Where some individual applicants do not have their own computer units, such applicants should be allowed to exercise the freedom to patronize either a CBT centre or the cyber cafés.” The letter stated.
